Cyber Advisor

Certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), our Cyber Advisors help small and medium-sized businesses to implement Cyber Essentials controls — offering tailored, practical guidance.

What is the Cyber Advisor Scheme?

The Cyber Advisor scheme was introduced by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to help small and medium-sized businesses determine the best way to implement the technical controls set out in Cyber Essentials. Many of these organisations do not have the internal skills or resources required to determine the best way to implement the controls.

Cyber Advisors have passed an independent assessment carried out against the NCSC’s approved standard. This assessment measures not only their knowledge and understanding of Cyber Essentials, but also their competence at providing practical, hands-on support, and their ability to understand and work with small and medium–sized organisations.

How can a Cyber Advisor help?

A Cyber Advisor can help in many different ways, and each engagement is unique, depending on the customer infrastructure. A Cyber Advisor will have experience in implementing different solutions to meet the required standard of Cyber Essentials. A Cyber Advisor will be able to provide practical support and recommend appropriate steps which will ultimately lead to the customer being protected against the majority of commodity, internet-based attacks.

However, a typical engagement may consist of some or all of the following:

  • Conduct a gap assessment against the Cyber Essentials controls.

  • Develop and agree remediation activities with the customers.

  • Implement the remediation steps sympathetically to customers operational activities.

  • Carry out a post-remediation review.

  • Complete the Cyber Essentials certification.

Why is it important to have a Cyber Advisor when implementing Cyber Essentials controls?

Having a dedicated Cyber Advisor to assist you in implementing the controls minimises your risk of cyber incidents. Your Cyber Advisor will carry out a detailed gap analysis of your current security systems and guide you through the tailored improvements they recommend, reducing your exposure to common cyber threats. This ensures you are not wasting time and money on ineffective security measures which will need replacing.

By planning and implementing only what your business needs, your Cyber Advisor will help you avoid unnecessary risks and ensure that you are making valuable security investments.
